The hides are tanned according to a process that requires at least six months. Each skin is slowly dipped in delicate vegetable liqueurs. Once cleaned and polished it takes on a depth similar to porcelain. The nuances are the result of the artistic skills of the artisans, a real chromatic research.
The Mississippi alligator is particularly prized for its quality. The cut varies greatly and the pattern can change. In this case the artisan mastery is extremely important for the union of several parts avoiding a clear difference in the texture. Each LUCE shoe is made using two alligators of the same size, so as to look like "twins".
A high-quality leather requires careful selection to avoid products with defects. The removal of the superficial grains allows the penetration of the castor oil into the sole in order to guarantee water impermability and greater resistance to abrasion. The leather we use comes exclusively from Italian Mediterranean buffalo leather.
